Where you at?
When building a social media and/or platform strategy, there are three key areas to consider: Audience, Content and Resources. With Content, it's about whether you have the type and quantity of content required to regularly post on a particular platform. With Resources, it's about having the time (and money) to maintain a consistent posting schedule, as well as engagement, monitoring and measurement. And knowing where your Audience is makes it easier to succeed on social media, but can be tricky to figure out. Hopefully some of this data will help provide some clues.
Survey Says...
A U.S. study by the Pew Research Center — Social Media Use in 2021 — suggests that in general, seven out of 10 Americans use social media on a regular basis (although, that jumps to 80%+ for those aged 18-49). The top two platforms in general are Facebook and YouTube. In terms of user growth, YouTube is also the fastest-growing platform, with 81% of Americans saying they use the platform, up from 73% in 2019. Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat users visit the platforms on a daily basis. Meanwhile, three-in-ten adults surveyed reported using Pinterest and LinkedIn. Learn more.
Thirty and Under
In that same study, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok were all found to have very strong followings amongst those under the age of 30. Those aged 18-24 were most likely to say they used Instagram (76%), Snapchat (75%) and TikTok (55%). YouTube is also a very popular platform across many age groups. More than 90% of those from the ages of 49 to 18 say they use the platform. Learn more.
Tops for Teens
If you want to reach teenagers, Snapchat is the place to be. As reported by The Motley Fool, Piper Sandler's latest semi-annual "Taking Stocks with Teens" survey suggests most teens use Snapchat, followed closely behind by TikTok, and then Facebook (Facebook tried to buy Snap Inc. in 2013 for $3 billion, but was turned down; the company is now worth $92 billion). Snapchat launched a TikTok competitor, called Spotlight, earlier this year. It already has 125 million monthly users. Meanwhile, TikTok has launched some Snapchat-like features, such as integrated messaging. Let the battle for teens begin!

What's Up With WhatsApp
New Business Feature — Facebook (which owns WhatsApp) announced it will give business owners the ability to launch ads that run on Facebook and Instagram that allow users to click back to their WhatsApp profile. Previously, the buying process was managed entirely on Facebook and Instagram. Learn more.
Expanded Images — WhatsApp announced it is expanding the image view to show the entire image or video in message threads. This is similar to a test that Twitter is also conducting for images in the feed.

MEME STOCK
"A meme stock is a stock that has value, not because of any fundamentals like P/E ratio or strong economics, a meme stock has value because the stock ticker has gone viral on social media and garnered the attention of normal people (known as retail investors)."

Preparing for Post-Pandemic Life Has Begun
Dream vacation destinations. Zebra pants. Euphoria party ideas. Grand millennial decor. These are some of the trending searches that are on the rise as we prepare for a post-pandemic life, according to Pinterest — and Gen Z is leading the way.
Searches for vacation ideas, including luxury trips, are way up, as are searches for what we'll wear once we reopen (searches containing the word "outfit" are at an all-time high, according to Pinterest). As for entertaining, searches for "party life" are three times higher than normal, as are searches for big home design ideas.
Tattoo-related searches also popped up in two categories: vacation and entertaining. Prepare to get inked, I guess.
