A not-so-wayback playback

Managing Social Media is Hard Enough — Staying Up to Date Shouldn't Be.
Wrapping Up 2022
Since this is the last TSP newsletter of 2021, I thought I would create a playback list of some of the (lighter) moments in social media. Here we go...
We kicked off the year with Sea Shanties on TikTok and memes of Bernie Madoff and his handmade mittens.
In February, we all giggled as a lawyer tried to turn off a cat filter on Zoom, finally verifying, "I am not a cat." And then we were horrified when a woman used Gorilla Glue in her hair instead of hairspray.
In March, a drone video (created in one take!) of a Minnesota bowling alley went viral. Meanwhile, a viral video from 2020 — @420doggface208 sipping Ocean Spray while skateboarding, and set to Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" — marked its one-year anniversary with this duet.
In 2021, the red flags were flying on Twitter. And we learned that Gen Z can tell you're old by how you part your hair, the jeans you wear, and the emojis you use. 😂
And in perhaps the most heartwarming meme of all, we met Noodle the Pug, whose owner @jongraz lets us know if it's going to be "a bones day."
We also said goodbye to Twitter Fleets and LinkedIn Stories (yay!). YouTube rolled out its TikTok copycat, Shorts, globally. Instagram announced it was no longer a square photo-sharing app. And Facebook changed its name to Meta amid some serious whistle-blowing.
And we added to our vocab with a few new words, like cheugy and yassification.
This is just a small sample of what happened in 2021. I look forward to sharing even more social media news, tips and trends with you in 2022. Expect the next newsletter to drop in your inbox on Monday, Jan. 10!
Until then, here is a little gift for you — a 2022 Editorial Calendar!
Wishing you a very happy holidays, and a happy New Year! 🎉

Hey, congrats — you made it to the bottom of the e-newsletter!
