Social Media Unwrapped 2022
Just another day in social media. 🎄
Wrapping Up 2022
Since this is the last TSP newsletter of the year, I thought we could take a look back at some of the top news, trends and moments in social media. Here we go...
🫡 Twitter started the year by launching an inspiring brand campaign focused on manifesting that tweet; it ended the year with mass layoffs and resignations, and an uncertain future after Elon Musk officially purchased the company (we also got a paid edit button)
🫢 Instagram launched auto-generated captions for feed posts, and introduced pinned posts and desktop scheduling; the company also got called out in the summer for trying to be too much like TikTok after launching a full-screen video feed
⏰ TikTok extended its maximum video length to 10 minutes; and appears to be worrying at least one Google executive, who says Gen Z prefers to search on TikTok and Instagram
👉 LinkedIn launched Live Audio Events and new tools for creators; meanwhile, CEO Ryan Roslansky claims Gen Z is starting to show this platform some love
👻 Snapchat launched a Pixy drone, which it later killed after having to cut back on staff; it also launched a subscription service called Snapchat+ in 2022
🤔 Meta introduced its first retail store, but seemed to struggle to get its metaverse Horizon Worlds off the ground; And as the company marked the one-year anniversary of Facebook becoming Meta, it also announced mass layoffs
📽 YouTube introduced handles, and marked the one-year anniversary of YouTube Shorts
